Without any of the Greek inflection of nearby Dodecanese, the Tarpon Turtle still feels like a visitor's paradise - eavesdrop long enough and you'll hear Canadian snowbirds speaking enthusiastically "aboot" the Florida sun. The new Turtle is the kind of place where a Key West margarita (a froufrou concoction with melon liqueur) or a Lake Tarpon Breeze (coconut tequila, mango tequila, pineapple, etc.) will seem like a resoundingly good idea, especially if the weather is nice and the afternoon stretches lazily before you. Another successful one is similar in tone, featuring sweet-tangy brisket on mashed potatoes also gussied with black beans, corn and plantains ($12.99).
There's an appealing Mango Tango chicken bowl ($11.99) with brown rice and black beans studded with corn and topped with a flavorful-but-not-spicy jerk chicken breast, the whole thing lent a little panache with plantains, corn niblets and a sweet housemade mango chutney.
